Its Winter in the Southern Hemisphere, a time when I tend to gravitate to the lounge with remote in hand to watch Netflix.
I’ve managed to spend many (too) late nights avidly consuming series – House of Cards, Narcos, upon my sister’s advice I am now into Season 1 of Bloodline…and of course let’s not forget Orange is the New Black (all kinds of fabulousness…)
However my love of fashion also runs deep – so I’m going to revisit old favourites, and discover some new.
Come and join me for -Style on Netflix – watch for a ‘fashion fix‘…
IRIS
Iris Apfel, the quick-witted, flamboyantly dressed 93 year old style maven who has had an outsized presence on the New York fashion scene for decades. IRIS portrays a singular woman whose enthusiasm for fashion, art and people are life’s sustenance and reminds us that dressing, and indeed life, is nothing but an experiment.
her jewellery collection is covetable – when I grow up I do want to be as brave as Iris with my fashion choices
THE DIRECTOR
An intriguing look at the life and work of Gucci’s creative director, Frida Giannini, tracing her career at one of the world’s great fashion houses.
I love how she brought back many of the archived prints, everything old is new again and even more glorious (swoon at the Flora print collection). Although Frida has since left Gucci it still makes great viewing..
BREAKFAST AT TIFFANYS
Iconic and not really requiring an introduction. However just incase – this movie is based on Truman Capote’s novel, the story of a young woman in New York City who meets a young man when he moves into her apartment building. He is with an older woman who is very wealthy, but he wants to be a writer. She is working as an expensive escort and searching for a rich, older man to marry…
Audrey Hepburn wearing ‘that’ little black dress & ‘those’ sunglasses, fashion history in the making…
SEX & THE CITY
The sequel to this was good (lots of Kaftans in the desert), I actually went straight off a 24 hour flight from Sydney to a girls night out with my London based sister and her friends to celebrate the release!
However it is the 1st movie I really enjoyed…just to remind you, Big proposes to Carrie, but the groom’s cold feet threaten to ruin their relationship forever. Tears are shed…
for a fashion fix nothing beats Carrie’s many outfits – they were so fresh and new and most have stood the test of time…
MAD MEN
I’ve finally finished the series and I feel I need to go back and begin from Season 1 again, if not simply to see Betty Draper’s fashion styles change over the years. They are not particularly politically correct (or fashionable), however I cannot get enough of Roger Sterlings one-liners, gold.
My favourite is still her ‘horse riding’ outfit – classic Hermes Scarf and Cashmere Sweater, they never date.
So tell me what are your favourite TV fashion moments?
(What do you watch for a ‘fashion fix’..)
