The Whitsundays: A Tropical Haven
The Locale
When the city’s relentless rhythm becomes a cacophony and escape beckons like a siren, The Whitsundays emerges as our sanctuary. This archipelagic wonder, 74 emerald isles scattered across the Coral Sea. Will you seek out a hidden cove, its white sand untouched save for the imprints of shore birds, or lose yourself in the embrace of ancient rainforests? The Whitsundays doesn’t just offer paradise; it redefines it with every sun-drenched day. As you stand on the deck of a gently bobbing boat, the only decision weighing on your mind is whether to plunge into the gin-clear waters of Whitehaven Beach or to linger a while longer, letting the sun warm your skin as you watch sea turtles glide by in silent celebration of this aquatic utopia.
The Vibe
Airlie Beach, the gateway to this idyll, heralds a laid-back charm that’s as intoxicating as it is genuine. A refreshing simplicity complete with views that make you question why you ever lived anywhere else. The natural splendor of the Whitsundays is matched only by the warmth of its people, a place where adventure and relaxation aren’t mutually exclusive – you can scale a mountain at dawn, the reward a vista so breathtaking it borders on the spiritual, then descend to find yourself poolside for a snooze, the day stretching out before you like the endless blue of the Coral Sea. Airlie Beach is where you will find uber chic resident Florence.
Chic Local: Florence Ilickovic
Florence, a French Australian, made the move to The Whitsundays years ago, seeking that ever-elusive work-life balance. With her young family in tow, she traded in the city hustle for a life filled with sunshine, sand, and a whole lot of serenity. For Florence, Airlie Beach has been the perfect place to raise a family and set up her chic fashion and lifestyle boutique, far from the stress of urban life.
Favourite Undiscovered Spot in the Region (shh we won’t tell)
A secluded beach on any one of the many islands – there are so many to seek and find! Try Blue Pearl Bay on Hayman Island, a popular snorkeling spot, yet often you’ll find yourself the only ones there.
Where You Suggest Friends Stay
I usually recommend a beautiful Airbnb property. So many locals go out of their way to offer beautifully styled homes to their guests, look for one that showcases our incredible sunrises and sunsets.
Favourite Brunch Spot
Oh, difficult choice. It would be anywhere by the water – Boho Cafe and Rufus and Co are pretty perfect! There’s something about starting the day with a good coffee and a view of the ocean that sets the right tone.
Favourite Sunset Views
Head to ‘new’ beach and sit by the water watching the day turn into night. My tip for catching the best sunset is all about simplicity – no need for a fancy spot, just find a quiet beach and let nature do the rest.
Chicest Place to Go
Oasis Lifestyle boutique of course! Our boutique is where chic meets the tropics – a favourite haunt of Monique’s too, with pieces sourced from all over the globe, from fashion to homeware and perfect gifts.
Favourite Day Hike
The Mount Rooper hike – good exercise session and amazing views along the way – a firm favourite.
Your Ideal Day of Wellbeing in The Whitsundays
During the winter months, it would have to include a swim at ‘new’ beach, lazing in the sun for a recharge of vitamin D with a favourite book in hand. Total disconnect from the everyday guaranteed.
